RE: a little fun with paper patched bullets and the .45-2.6
Don thanks for the info on the powder.
Recoil on the internet is a funny thing. I think lots of people say that recoil doesn't bother them but I think that what they mean is that it doesn't hurt. Accuracy suffers before I reach the pain threshold for sure. I used to have a .50-140 that I shot with 698gr bullets and 135gr of Fg. It didn't hurt, but I couldn't shoot it very well :-) :-).
I've learned over the years what works for me for sure. With heavier rifles like my 16 lb Shiloh in .45-110 I can shoot heavy charges, but in a non-Tollofson weight rifle I do better keeping loads a little softer.
My Borchardt might be my best fitting rifle. That one weighs 14lbs and my load for it is a Baco 458535 Money at around 1340 fps. In that rifle it works great, but not so much in my light weight highwall.
I'd stick with the Borchardt as my permanent long range rifle as I think I can get a little more out of it ( slightly better SD, and a mini-groove bullet ) but I'd feel more comfortable if there was a local gunsmith who was a Borchardt expert.
I think where I'll likely end up is with my .45-2.4" or my .45-2.6" Shiloh Long Range Express rifles. I have one last Creedmoor rifle in the plan. It's going to be a Tollofson rifle, probably set up like Jimbo's or Kenny's, although I might drop it down to a 16 lb barrel. That one won't likely get built for several years though. I started the order last year and the folks at Shiloh said they won't likely be doing any bull barrels for some time.
Chris.
