I haven't had a Winchester for many years. I had two .25-20's and a .38-56 as well as a .45-70 and they all were fine rifles. I really liked the .25-20's.
Right now all I have for lever rifles is a 99 Savage in the .300 savage I had for ever and I think it has the advantage over being smooth and how it functions with that rotary mag they have. I never had a jam using it.
Right now for the lever rifles I have two are a .30-30 in the 93 and 336 JM stamp .30-30. A early .444 and a 95 in the .45-70 in the big bores. So the square bolt Marlin in .44-40, .38-55 and maybe the .38-40 is still on my bucket list, but the Win in those calibers is close behind. I just don't like the Win because I have to clean it from the muzzle and it has that safety button under the lever that some have to get squeezed hard before the hammer falls.
