cast bullet weight tolerance question

I'm a big believer in sorting bullets to weight. So I usually end up with a few extras that don't fit the groups plus some with the swirleys on the nose if I started casting too soon.
Last month I gathered up about 60 of those bullets, lubed them and stuck them in my 40-82 cases to get rid of at the local Buffalo match. 300 to 650 yds. As luck would have it, the match got cancelled and I didn't feel like pulling the bullets so I just shot them at the long range match. I wound up right up in the running and most of my misses were of my doings, not the bullet. I'm probably not going to throw as many bullets in the recast bin as I used to.

as I progress into this game I am starting to see the same, just starting into my 3rd year, I am just trying to avoid any element that will be negative as I learn, I am trying to keep all cast bullets within 0.3 grains +/- and I fully expect to reach this point regardless of how many I throw back into the pot
