RE: loading dies
Don, I will admit right up front that I honestly don't care all that much for Lee dies and I do have some of them. From the way you describe things, Lee did make the dies right. And this RCBS die set is a 3 die set. I am not even sure if RCBS offers this caliber any more but do know that CH does but they are well over $200 and could be up to a 2 year wait as they seem to be badly back logged.
In the past when I have compressed the powder I used a separate die for that and make my own compression stems with a lock ring on them. Its a Lyman die I think I got from BACO. What I like is I can measure the OAL of the die and stem and record that for the different bullets I use. Often times I use an appropriate size allen wrench to set the OP wads in the case. Some may not think its a good choice but for me it was handy and seems to work quite well.
The big reasons I picked up these dies were the price and the fact that I can use them to do some things with different calibers. I do have a 43 Mauser and picked up some cases/ammo last year so the dies may come in handy for that use. I do have a proper shell holder for the Jamason Brass and that should work for the mauser as well, but haven't checked yet.
I think I still have some hardenable steel around here I could make a new expander plug with just need to find someone local to do the Heat Treat for me and that shouldn't really be a problem.
