RE: Semmer match results
Golden Gun Club – Charlie Semmer match report – Colorado State Championship – 9/6-7/2014 -results
About thirty five determined riflemen and rifle-women (is that a word?) turned out for the 2-day Semmer memorial BPCR Silhouette match. We need not have worried about the rainy forecast for the weekend-everything turned out wonderful. The match was shot in cool weather and mild winds on Saturday and then Sunday was slightly warmer with trickier winds but nothing too difficult.
The state championship was always Charlie’s match and he was very much missed by those of us that know him! So many of his longtime friends came to either shoot or visit. Stories and laughter filled both days of competition. Alumni from out of state and as far away as Kansas, Wyoming, Indiana and Alabama showed up as well as the more likely Colorado regulars who were in attendance. Marty was there as range officer and it was really great to have his voice and steady command running the place for the two day event. Of course he and Hugh Wilson were in the tower at the silhouette nationals (Raton) and whose voices are so familiar.
Not only did we contest the State BPCR silhouette championship but we had a number of side matches and personal matches within the structure of the two day event. Many friendships renewed and gentleman revived old bets on their shooting skill. You could tell this was a group with a lot of history and those new the group were welcomed and got right into the swing of it.
Of special note, on Sunday Charlie’s son Paul and grandson showed up and we stopped the match long enough for them to shoot Charlie’s match rifle at a chicken and Woody presented them with special chicken pins. It was a nice touch and they were smiles ear to ear.
Full details of the match can be viewed on the excel scoreboard, however, in short, the iron sight winner is Cody Smith with a two day agg of 65 and Joe Scott – scope class match winner shooting an agg of 62.
Cody wanted me to make darn sure I mentioned the great job Travis Purdum did for him coaching Cody into the iron sight Match Winners spot! Travis is a fast study and really kept Cody on target. It is really great when a rifleman remembers to publicly thank his spotter and that reminds me, Thank you Woody! Thanks for having my back all weekend.
Cody came up with some wonderful door prizes provided to us by the following venders, many who are supporting us at every event I attend and I hope that we will remember to thank them by supporting them as well.
The ones that we had were: Travis and Dawna Purdum of Cal-Graf Design, Gary Ladd of Cat's Shooting Sticks, Brooks Moulds, Woody's Shooting Boxes, Montana Vintage Arms, SPG, DZ arms,Green Mountain Barrels, Redding Reloading Equipment, John Olsen of BSC Lube, Hornady products, Powder Inc, and Schuetzen Powder.
