perry modern observations
the more you read perry, the more interesting it gets.
some sample plot sheets suggest that some muzzle loading was still happening.
the writing also suggests that this was also happening. however the plot thickens.
it would appear that while conventional muzzle loaders were still used, guys were muzzle loading breech loaders.
he talks of problems with muzzle loading, one being to forget to chamber a case prior to pouring the powder down the barrel, and all the action cleaning etc that goes with.
I have read that creedmoor was the great demonstration of superiority of breech over muzzle loaders, but that they failed to mention that some of the americans were in fact muzzle loading their sharps and remingtons.
of course we know that scheutzen shooters like pope went on to do this, as well as breech seat, as did later creedmoor shooters.
I have a picture of a gibbs metford match rifle with a false muzzle which suggests that the brits were also muzzle loading breech loaders.
oh for a time machine.
keep safe,
bruce.
