I utilize avg velocity to plot in my ballistic calculator program and give me rough MOA come ups out to whatever yardage I want them too. Shooting chrony for about $100 works good for the money to the best an Oehler Model 35 6-700? bobw
will reading the results from the chrony really tell me anything if I am keeping all tolerances in loading as close as I possibly can?

RE: chronograph question
I have had a PACT for 15 years or so. Haven't used it for a couple of years now.
The target will tell me if my load works.

RE: chronograph question
chaneylake in addition to the points mentioned by bobw it will tell you how one brand/granulation/lot/ of powder stacks up against another. It will tell you the difference in velocity between a clean and fouled bore. It might even tell you that you aren't keeping tolerances as tight as you thought. It will tell you which tripods are stable in the wind without a shot being fired. That may help you protect a very expensive spotting scope in rough conditions. And it most definitely will tell you if your rifle is shooting low relative to the sights with only one shot. If you're just shooting casually or hunting with the rifle it may not be worth the investment. If you're pursuing the optimal performance from yourself, your rifle and your loads it can give you information that might be very useful if you keep good records and take advantage of ballistic software, much of it free to download.
