Shot the 44
Went up to the Ridgway Silhouette match todayand took the 44 along to show a friend of mine. Well by the time I got there the match was over and everyone had left. I had brought 10 rounds along in case my friend wanted to fire it. Now I am not any great off hand shot, didn't have any sight settings and didn't have the best choice of insert in the front. So with the 10 rounds I managed to dump 2 chickes at 200m. Took a guess on the sight and wasn't off too much. I think that the rounds were loaded with CTG but not posative. I did blow through the barrel twice when it got hard to chamber a round. Recoil wasn't bad, I was a little worried about that due to the weight of the barrel. Offhand it holds very nicely, I just like the way it balances a little better than my heavier rifles.
Now to get to a regular range and put it on paper. I think it will be very interesting to see what I can get it to do. I do have rounds loaded up with the same volume of Elephant Fg, Goex CTG and Swill 1 1/2. That should make for an interesting range session.
One thing I did notice, I uses a white coffee filter under the powder and it seemed that my primer pockets were a lot cleaner than my other ctg's where I have not used an under powder wad. Anyone else have this experience?

RE: Shot the 44
I was going to look the Ridgeway range up when I picked up my CPA but didn't because I was in a hurry and I figured I would catch it on the way back, but we went home taking a different rout. I will be heading back out again soon so this time I will swing on down and see what I missed the first time.

Kurt, if you plan on stopping up to the range on your way home, and your driving the motor home (gypseywagon) there are 2 ways to get to Ridgway from I80. The one that looks the most direct from the interstate would be to take the Penfield exit. That route is a little more direct when heading west. However it is all up and down and if your traveling durring the week there is also a lot of truck traffic that will slow things down. If you head west for 2 more exits and take the Brockway exit, it is about 7 miles further but a bit nicer drive. You get off the interstate (if heading west), turn right, go to the red light in Brockway and turn right again. From there it is a straight through drive right into Ridgway. When you get into town, you will want to bear pretty much straight through town, after you cross the river, another couple of blocks you will see a statue with the name Briggs Construction, just past that you will see the sign for Ridgway rifle club, you take a right and head up hill, the range sign will be on your left.

I will pull it out and see if I can get a couple of pics to post up. I did mount a snover rear sight on it and that was a bit of a learning curve. I learned real fast that I can now wrap my thumb over the wrist behind the sight, I got bit. What felt the most comfortable was to put my thumb over the top of the pivot point/mount. It was a good feeling hold and not painful.

RE: Shot the 44
Thank you Sam.
Good directions and I will print this out and put it in my folder.

I don't wrap my thumb around the wrist of the stock. I tend to get a lot of fatfinger wild flyers when I do that. I lay my thumb on the side over my trigger finger so I cant change the grip.

RE: Shot the 44
Kurt, that doesn't sound like a bad way to hold but I would think it would take a little practice to get used to. On the roller with the Snover sight I am not sure if that hold will work but I will keep it in mind and give it a try when I get out next. I don't think, or at least I don't remember having any trouble with my hold when I had my Parts Unknown sight on the roller. Since I have options on the sights, I will play with them to see which one feels and works out the best. The one big upside to the Snover is that its just 1 large thumb nut and the sight slides out of the base and right into the other. My other sight is a little more involved in swaping it from one gun to another.
