Quigley 2015
It was so much fun getting to shoot with all of you!!! Anyone thinking about attending...DO IT!! This is the world championship of Black Powder Rifles...and it is open to EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone not attending??? PLEASE COME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone attending ?... ..Fun! wasn't it??Tongue...

For those of you that know me ( or give a shit) ..Life kind'a kicked my ass this winter...The Big Whiskey was the last time my rifle had seen light. 9-6-14Cool

I arrived at the "Q" with no spotter... but good ammo, and a Shiloh rifle... I was a little disappointed by the internet "BS" circulating around the unfortunate soul that managed to blow his hand off in practice with smokeless powder...( I pray he is comfortable and healing nicely!) We need allow this crap to unify us..NOT separate us :!:

fOR THOSE TEASING...Let us not forget that the Gun its' self..(The 1874 sharps) is in itself "playing "dress-up"!!!!!!!!!!!!Big Grin SO COOL AND A TOTAL ICON OF THE WEST!!!!!!Big Grin

Being a little scared of the smokeless crowd myself... I looked to squad myself with the BP guys I knew...sure enough, there was a 1st position opening with the guys I knew!! ... This brought a big ass smile to my face!

The guys managed to rib and tease me about being the 1st shooter in line at every target...The roll of the dice, for the first shot hit,.. was up to me!! It was so much fun!!! The hardest part was to stop laughing long enough to send the shot Big Grin ...The finale of day 2 was the wind went to total crap.. and just enough wind to ruin a good run.

For those of you that know him....Toby ( my spotter) "Said lets do this"..."Zero your sight"///not really what I had in mind after trying to get the wind number figured out UndecidedConfused But I knew that I had to listen to him because he's Indian and the wind just seems to speek to him. TongueTongueConfused...He called me back and forth across zero...no matter what the little wind flag at the line was saying...He backed the scope out to read mirage that defied all logic!!!..But he could see it!!! Even when the wind flag was left,.. he told me to go right!!! After most of the hits he told me to return to Zero!! Toby really won the Quigley 2015 for me!!! Thanks Toby!!! Big Grin

Anyone wondering??? Don't miss this shoot!!! It really has become the greatest shoot in the country!!! Just because of the people!!
Thank you everyone!!
And God Bless you all!!!!!!!!!!

I add my congratulations to you sir. Nicely done. Also, thank for the complimentary words to my daughter when she AD'd on the line Friday during practice. She was very diligent the rest of the match. Steve

RE: Quigley 2015
My load details Don...

1874 Shiloh Sharps 30" Heavy Octagon barrel (makes weight for Silhouette 12lbs)
45-90 (2.4)

Case.. Starline. Annealed and fire formed, trimmed, debured flashholes, then never touched again..bullets are loose, but I do put a VERY light crimp on them for Quigley to keep bullets from falling out because I like to wear my canvas BPCR belt.

Primer.. Win LR. (what I had on hand?)

Bullet.. BACO 525gr Money 15:1 lead/tin..love this bullet!!

Lube..SPG Pan lubed as cast..no sizeing. John Olsen's lube has worked as well for me in the past when coupled with the Olde Eynsford.

Fouling..Bowtube 6-8 breaths

Powder... 78gr Olde Eynsford 1 1/2f drop tubed

Compression...?? I use a preset die to give me the length I need.

Wad..gasket fiber .030 that I cut myself with a BACO press mounted cutter

Can't say enough about the OE 1 1/2 powder..this stuff hydrates so easily!!..I never cleaned my rifle for the entire 3 days with practice rounds included..about 150 rounds total. I blew 10 breathes at the end of each day and pushed 3 cotton balls through the barrel to be sure I had no hard fouling...Fouling on the cotton was butterTongue

Thanks Steve, I really appreciate you saying so. ..I'll bet she was diligent. From the look on her face she appeared fairly persuaded by what she learned!..It is/was my sincere hope that she could take what she learned and use it to make us all safer by being a safety advocate to those around her....if the big rifles stay on the sticks (just like her's was) when mixed with ammo, things tend to remain headed in the "right direction".

RE: Quigley 2015
Thanks Wes. I've been having good results with 81 grs of 1 1/2 in the 2.4 case. Carol's rifle has been shooting that 525 gr bullet from 16-1 quite well with OE 2f.
Again congrats on your win.

IIRC this is the exact combo that Ed Tilton steered to the last 2 Q Match Winner 1st places in 13 and 14.

Congrats again Wes. bobw
