An OhNoSecond
I put this same post up on the Shiloh forum, maybe Kurt has some wisdom to add here

How many of you know what an OhNoSecond is ? I am sure you know that a NanoSecond is an infinitesimal slice of time. Well an OhNoSecond is that finitesimal slice of time when you realize "OhNo".

I had one yesterday. The 45-90's are all loaded, ready for the trip to Alliance. I was starting to set up for the 110's and realized that OhNo, I had shot my original box of 1F up. I do have another case here. Luckily I have time to go to the range and shoot 200 yard groups and see which load does the best.

This lot of powder is less per given weighed volume by quite a lot. There is at least 3/16th" in difference in the height of the drop tubed powder column. The original case does not fill the cartridge case as much.

We will see how this new lot shot compares to the old.

Smitty Pratt (baldhead9 on the board) is driving to my house here in Ohio from New Hampshire. We are going to try and leave on the monday before and take out time, getting to the range on Wednesday. Smitty is bringing his 110. I my 90 and 110 and maybe another if I get time to cast more bullets and load.

My tasks this week is to go shoot my groups AND find out what type of wine Mr McDowell and his lovely other half like. We have a winery within 3 miles that does nice work and are picking up a bottle for Jeff and Wendy and a bottle for Don and Caroll. White/Red/Sweet/Dry, that is what I need to know so I can take a trip up on the hill.

We're not terribly picky on wine, but chances are pretty slim we'll be in Alliance for the shoot. To many other things on the schedule.

Dang. I can always leave it with Jeff and Wendy for when you run into him. Up on the ridge the soil and such was just perfect for a winery. 1/2 mile in either direction and it just would not work.

I was hoping to see you there.

Still like some input here from folks that have shot more regarding BP, Goex, different densities.

Can a less dense powder shoot faster/slower, cleaner/dirtier, etc ? Is there a general rule ?

Or is it "you won't know until you get to the range and shoot groups".

I think it was Lumpy that ran into the same problem with a different lot of Goex. I may be mistaken but I think he ended up just loading to the same volume and all remained well.

RE: An OhNoSecond
This lot of 1F is so less dense, that if I loaded to the same volume, it would spilling out over the top of the case. I didn't measure it (will do so eventually) but there is at least 3/16" of an inch difference, the same volume pegged the beam scale. Later today I will get a weight measurement of the difference between the same volume.

The old lot with the same volume is 9 grains heavier.

Dave, When I set a box of loads back for a match, I will never do it again in dim rundown battery lights again, never again! Smile

As far as a new lot of powder or new case of powder with the same lot number I still do the ladder load tests of two gr intervals three rounds fired with no compression to max compression. This will tell you how much has changed in 21 rounds fired.
I find usually that the amount of compression will change the groups faster then the weight used between two lots.
