Wagon box gun "cases"
Gentlemen and ladies,
I'm kinda interested in getting 1 of the wagon box gun "cases" that are made by the outfit (can't think of the name at the moment) in s.e. Wyoming. What are your thoughts on these; are they worth the money, do they work well, are they durable, do they do the job for protecting Sharps, etc. rifles? What else do I need to know, but can't think of at the moment? Or are they mostly overrated?
It will get good care, but it will not be a piece of furniture either. It will probably live in the garage, but w/ good care. It will be riding around in the back of a 3/4 ton Dodge pickup at times, too.
Your thoughts and experiences, if you don't mind. PM's are fine, because I don't want to inadvertently offend anyone unnecessarily.
Regards
IR

RE: Wagon box gun "cases"
They are a nice box. I seen one at the Q but they are a little heavy for me to drag around.
I picked up a couple Bulldog soft cases to make packing a little easier. They are heavily padded and I have no dents in the wood yet.

RE: Wagon box gun "cases"
While I don't have a wagon box, I do have a one of their other products. All of them are very well made and durable. The quality of the box is not part of the equation. What you need to ask is what you wants wishes or needs are. The wagon box would just fit the style of a nice single shot. For me it's easy to hold my Sharps and be in another time and place. Those wagon boxes would only be part of that feeling. Steve

RE: Wagon box gun "cases"
Like Kurt said, they are a nice box. But. They are big, Heavy, and unwieldy, and do not do a good job of holding the rifle securely. Did I say they are HEAVY? They make a nice piece of display furniture for your den or gun room, but are a joke as far as a usable gun case. If you want one to use or travel on a plane with, get a Pelican. Shoot straight, rdnck.

As nice as the wood cases are. They are heavy and very cumbersome.
Here is the case I use, it easily fits my 34" bbl'd Hartford.
They do have a shorter version.

Been using this case for 12 yrs now-NO issues at all.

RE: Wagon box gun "cases"
The wagon box may be all the things said, but most of us carry our guns in a vehicle that's at the least capable of carrying one. Travis and his family puts out a nice product, there are nice folks and they're proud of the what they do. It's not a do all gun case, but is a very nice case that a Sharps or likes there of just look good in. I'd echo Don's sentiment, give em a call. Steve

RE: Wagon box gun "cases"
I shoot "Cowboy Action" every weekend and I built a cart that carries two "Gun Boxes"..
Take them out of the gun room, mount them to the cart, come home, remove from cart, back in gun room....Easy Peasy!

I love the "Period Correctness" (PC) of them!
If you like leather and canvas...You simply can't beat Jeff Outfitters cases. I have a half dozen of them for Shotguns, Take-Down lever actions and Buffalo Rifles.....Fantastic quality for the price!

RE: Wagon box gun "cases"
Cal-Graf changed hands last year. Lucky me, my next door neighbor and good friend bought them and moved it into his shop. The quality of the products has always been good, but Travis and Dawna have stepped it up considerably as well as have incorporated a bunch of good ideas into the products that only a shooter could do. You won't be disappointed in any of their products. I don't have a wagon box, but wish I did. Maybe one day.
take care, Cody
