What part of the dry side. I'm in the SE corner. Mostly shoot in the back yard.

When it comes to the 44's you can't go with the straight cases that are simply made by running the 45 xx case in a sizing die and going on about your business. I like that 44-90 st case a lot..
Also today I watched 2 guys running 40-70' shoot right thru some really nasty conditions and nearly clean the ram line...
When it comes to the 1k line your 45-70 will do that just fine. So maybe choosing one of the other diameters might just add a bit of spice to the usual bowlfull of gruel.
A wise man can always be found alone. A weak man can always be found in a crowd.

I really must agree with Don. If you already have a .45 and a .50, it's time to get a .40 and the .40/70 SS is a sweet one. Shoot sharp, Mike

RE: Thinking on a new rifle
well then if you are really thinking of a 40 cal, I'd suggest the 40-82 with a 13 or 14 twist barrel.

RE: Thinking on a new rifle
what semtav says + 1.
40/72 is a ballistic twin. very similar case capacity.
13 twist will allow a bullet 1.550" long.
shot 900 & 1000 with one last sat.
keep safe,
bruce.
