RE: savage 99
I have had three 99 Savages, and still have one in the .300 savage. One was the .22 HP, it was the first one. It did not shoot for sour grapes and it was hard to find ammo for. You could still find it back in the 50's. I think the Russians also have a 5MM ??something that is the same shell. The 25 Winchester could be used to make cases for the .22 HP.
I traded it off for a 250 savage (250-3000) I shot the bore out of that one. I still have the .300 savage. The 250 was the best shooter out of the three.
All three where the early model with the small Schnabel forearm. The .22 had a straight stock as well as the 250.
I think the 99 has the best lever action made. It's a strong action and with that rotary magazine I never had a feeding problem and you can shoot any shaped bullets in it you want.
The reason a dog has so many friends is because he wags his tail instead of his tongue.
