Ladders
Gonna get serious w/ my ladder testing, specially since loading is so satisfying for me. Am making our targets f/ 18"x24"x3/8" plastic corrugated sign board, undercoated w/ flourescent green, top coated w/ black to show bullet holes better from the bench. And like this guys methods/tips

While it doesn't eliminate the need to be able to calculate, it'll give me what I need to get there. Specially like his round-robin approach and usin the same target multiple days/conditions. Cheers, Doug

RE: Ladders
Last time out it was the 68 gr Swiss 1.5F that seemed to be the real sweet spot (only 100 yds) under my Saeco 645/485 gr (@ 20:1), 2 7/8 COL, DGL lube, CCI 200 standard primer w/ coffee filter wad over it, .060 wad. While true that I was also calibrating the new Soule, the windage was good and my last grouping w/ this load was unwavering. Also shot 1.5F OE @ 66 gr, 68 gr, 69 gr, 70 gr and Swiss 1.5F at 66 gr, 69 gr and 70 gr. The 70 gr OE load had me stoppin after 1 shot.

Have been reading about Newberry's OCW (Optimum Charge Weight) and Long's OBT (Optimum Barrel Time) re: barrel harmonics, and I don't know whether their approach is right for me. Moreover, if Long's traversing shock wave model is true, wouldn't this just show up in any other number of ways, such as in what the Audette ICLD shows? As well as in the sound, feel, etc? It's all pretty fascinating, but I also don't see how the right charge doesn't also obviate the need to measure bullet seating differences by some coupla thousandths. Guess I'll learn. But the last group had a sweet feel to it as well as the best result. Nuthin like leavin with a bullseye. Laughed all the way home. Contrast this w/ the jarring feel of the 70 gr load, and it wasn't just the recoil I'm talkin about. It was almost 1-dimensional in comparison, as if all the forces at work happened at the same time.
