40-70 2 1/4?
What is this? I know what the 40-70 2 1/10 is (45-70 necked down and bottle necked to 40) but what is the 40-70 2 1/4 ? My google-fu is failing me.

J, The .40-2 1/4 is the standard or old original .40/70 Bottleneck. The .40-2 1/10 is a modern day version of the old .40/70 BN made with the shorter case to easily use .45/70 brass. Shoot sharp, Mike

Yes, they both use the same rim as the .45/70. Shoot sharp, Mike

Just for kicks and grins, have you considered a 44-90 st? It's simply a 45-90 case necked to 44. It was one of the great cartridges of the original creedmoor era.

That 44-70 might be a good cartridge, it surely is worthy of consideration.

Gavin, Yes, the addiction is a serious one! With two .44/77s and a .44/90 BN, a .44-2.1" should be next. Shoot sharp, Mike
