My wife's first day
Here are the much anticipated (by me) results of Kate's first try with the 45-70. She's never fired a rifle before, except recently w/ the 30-30 (2 times).

First target (with a fouling/sighting shot in white by me) was @ 100 yds w/ 8" black with 385 gr Ly 124 over 63 gr OE 1.5. Her first 2 shots are left and touching.

Second target is 200 yds w/ 13" black usin Ly 132 @ 520 gr over 68 gr OE 1.5 and with a sight adjustment early in. But the best part was when, after both of the last 2 shots, she grimaced. I asked, "What's wrong?" and she said she didn't like it. I said, "Like what?" She said she thought the shot was down and left. And that's exactly where they were.

And this is why we're adding the 90 to our little stable.

RE: My wife's first day
Big Grin You just started something you wont have much control over Big Grin
Over the 52 years my Wife and I have been together I could never get her to shoot a hand gun. She has shot my .222 a few times but that is it. About 6-7 weeks ago she asked me if I had a pistol small enough she could handle. Well mine are all set up for bulls eye with right hand stocks on them or heavy hunting .44 mag and a couple N frames to large for her hands.
I told her we will go shopping in the morning for one that fits your hand. Ended up with a Ruger SR-9 and couple hundred rounds of ammo.
She asked "do we need that many shells? I said yup it's a semi auto Smile
On the way home she said stop at the range I want to see if it works. Smile
Now she asks if I want to go shoot. Big Grin I since ordered 3000 bulk bullets to reload and got a second Ruger in the SR-22 Tongue
So get ready, Ms. Kate will be asking you for a smaller caliber to shoot
The reason a dog has so many friends is because he wags his tail instead of his tongue.

Boy you got an expensive hobby coming. Instead of a 90, you might think about a 40-65 or 40-70, with a 13 inch pull..

One thing tho shooting, bad wind calls will become a bit more delicate when you are sleeping with your spotter. Smile

LOL. Reminds me of what she said today at the range, to call her Annie. Musta raised my eyebrow a little too high, mita smiled a little, cuz she shot back "At the range only. Wash yer brain out." But it's too late Don. Already ordered the 90.

RE: My wife's first day
Well Kurt, funny thing is she tried a 9mm years ago and couldn't handle the recoil. LOL. And today, "I didn't feel a thing." And I gotta say, she just looked so natural over the rifle, specially the way she'd draw her free hand back to the butt to cradle the stock. I watched her every shot, and she didn't squeeze nor twitch nor flinch. Real gentle on the trigger she was. I'm a proud daddy. Showed all the fellas what she'd done. And yeah, now she's been askin when we're goin next.

Honestly Don, I'm probly gonna need the 40 for silhouette. Just know I'm gonna stink it up off hand. Know it so well that I haven't even let myself try it yet.

There's a reason the slang expression amongst shooters is "awful hand"..

She sounds like a natural. Keep her shooting.
