Sounds like I'll have the 40-65 Browing bpcr wearing it's new 16 twist barrel and the Dan T 45-90 paper patch chamber in about 2 weeks. Going to have to get busy and start wrapping some more bullets. Big Grin

You should have a lot of fun with it. Despite my miserable performance at Phoenix, it really is an accurate gun. Mine is a 1:16 twist, but a GM barrel.

Give Kenny's wad stack (with the felt) a try with OE 1.5 if you have any on hand.

Chris.

A wad stack is very important. As much as the right primer or bullet shooting a PP bullet. Wad stacks don't effect a greaser to much but it does with a bore diameter PP using a soft felt or cork if you don't get the bullet hardness balanced so it fully upsets to fill the grooves or chamber wall to seal the gas behind the bullet to keep consistent pressure driving that bullet. This can cause the unexpected dirt diggers especially if the leaking gas cuts through the patch and hits the bullet.
The results are plowing dirt or one going from the X to wood splinters hitting the target frame.
They will make you scratch your head when the unexplained dust cloud kicks up for no reason at all.

RE: 45-90
Chris my normal wad stack has been for years a card wad of some kind and a felt wad. I settled on the Muzzleloader original dry lubed felt wads a couple of years back. I did borrow the Napa rubber cork ideas from Kenny. I also like to follow the Remington instructions from 1875 to wipe the exposed patch after loading with spermaceti, only as we can not get spermaceti, I substitute that with jojoba oil.

never overlook the kiss principle.
no lube and a simple thin hard wad is often a good place to start, and a lot less vert..

RE: 45-90
Bruce I have tried that with OE 1.5 and it severely gas cut the bullets. It works very well with Swiss in this rifle but was a disaster with OE. The only way I could get it to shoot well with OE was more wads. I imagine softer alloy would have helped, but the Money nose might not look like it started out :-)

It sometimes is interesting how jojoba oil on the patch, will turn a bad patched load into a good one..
