RE: N frame SW's any fans here?
I have a couple. One model 625 Mountain Gun. Had it machined so it can shoot 45LC as well as 45ACP in moon clips. Awesome gun. Sure would like a 629 Mountain Gun. Also have a 4 Inch 28. Have a 4 inch 629 that is a tack driver and a 6 inch 29 that shoots really good. Lucked into a 4 inch, 5 screw pre 29 that lettered to one of the first 50 4 inchers S&W produced. Great shooter but I don't shoot full house loads with it, just cast 44 special power. Most always carry the 625 when I'm in the woods.

I've an original Model of 1917 but I've got Pachmayr rubber on it.

I picked this up at a farm auction in Absorkee, MT. last year. I wish it could talk and tell me how it got from law enforcement sale 83 years ago in Illinois to Montana. The 5" barrel makes it a somewhat rare configuration. The grips are not correct but I like target stocks.

Also have a K38 Target Masterpiece Model 14-3 1970's vintage.

That is one beautiful looking 44 you have there and the history just makes it all the more so. Loved my N frames when I had them but the later models that went away from the pinned barrels and changed the shroud contour don't hold a candle to the earlier ones in terms of fit and finish. Still nice guns for sure but they don't have the attention to detail and refinement of their earlier cousins. Sure do like the 44 S & W Special as a cartridge. Does just about everything well depending on the load.
Thanks for sharing the photo and letter.

I got rid of most of my hand guns. and just kept what you see.
I think the S&W mod 25 in the .45 ACP and auto rim I used to use in it shot as well or better then the .45 Gold cup but not as well as the 52 master that is under the high standard THE VICTOR. I only have two N frames left and they are a .357.
I think one of the finest wheel gun shooters was my little K .22.
That Colt Anaconda above I really like but I don't like it strapped to my hip, to heavy, but it carries well with a shoulder holster.
The S&W are smooth.

I might as share that I have a model 25 .45 ACP. When I lived in West Texas I use to hunt and shoot jack rabbits. I bought a 4" 624 in the late 80's and a early 629 6". I carried the 629 when I was in Alaska in the mid 80's for about a year.
