'92 replica at long range
At yesterday's hanging gong match there was an added a side match at 200 yds. for "other than Long Range Single Shots" It consisted of Ram, Turkey and Chicken Silhouettes 5 shots each. I pressed into service my humble Rossi '92 in 45 LC with 24 inch Oct. Barrel. I have a "stout" hunting load consisting of cut down 454 Casull brass and 320 gr. 45 cal bullets sized to .454 without gas check (a card wad is firm between powder and PB). This load runs about 1500 fps and was built for Ohio Deer this year. The first 5 rounds were on full Silhouette 500 yd Ram posted here at 200 yds. This was essentially sighters for my little '92 and it connected on 5th. With only a hunting rear tang aperture it took quite a bit of hold over. However my best target was 4 out of 5 Turkeys. Yes the steel butt plate is padded ;-) Holding 6/15 with the little '92 lever against heavier artillery was great fun. My buddy won this side with 12/15 using his Marlin Lever rifle in 38-55.
