45 3-1/4
i see that we have hardly any posters here so ill jump in again...maybe huntin seasson...who knows ...but...here goes...

been playin with the 120 again as she is sooooo much fun...hungry devil anyway! my short supply of cartridge is under 10 lbs now so thought id wait to get some 2f or 1f goex but im gettin anxious so i loaded 10 'special' rounds last nite.

they consist of this load...

120 grains of cartridge powder with a wax paper overpowder sheet...compressed around .340 inch... .340 inch lube cookie....060 walters wad over the cookie...and topped off with a lyman 457122 bullet of 347 grains with the hollowpoint pin snipped off so it throws a solid bullet....sparked with my normal cci 200 large rifle primer.

this should be an express load and a half...according to my books this load should throw this lite bullet at somewhere around 1700 to 1850 fps. hoping that it wont lead too bad...guess if it does ill have to try some cast from the wheel weight alloy i have stashed back for harder bullets.

ill get back when i get to shoot this hungry hummer.

RE: 45 3-1/4
There is a field over by the expressway where it would be perfect to raise bison in. Or if a certain friend of mine and his wife (initials DM) would start to raise them critters and host us to his place, then I would think about that 120 that Terry (Shovel80) is selling for his buddy. That 120 would make an excellent gun to sit on the hillside and shoot buffalo with.......

I found an old online magazine and saved off the articles. There were some about loading the 120.

If you pm me an email address I will forward them to you. I can't post them as that could put Don in an awkward position with someone else's material. Since I am not publishing them, I will share them if you would like

Bigted,

I used to own a C. Sharps business rifle in the 45-3 1/4" chambering. I purchased it in Richland, WA when the company was just getting off of its feet. Not knowing anything about reloading for BPCR back then the load I came up with was 100 grains of Goex FFg and a gas-checked Lyman 375 grain bullet alloyed at Lyman's #2 alloy. Allox lube. I don't remember how much neck tension was on the bullet. Surprisingly, it shot very well. I kept a target for years but lost it when I last moved. It was a ragged 2 1/2" group shot at 100 yards. I sold the rifle years later to a fella who lived in Alaska, and he said it was the very best moose gun he'd ever owned.

This is a photo of my wife shooting the rifle at over 800 yards distance...

Robert
