RE: Utah State Bpcrs match
Bad news... Sad

Fellow Shooters,

This email is to inform you that the 2017 Utah State Championship Silhouette Match has been canceled.
As of a few days ago, there were 6 registered competitors with a few more verbally committed competitors.

As the Three Mile Creek Range is Perry City owned, there is a great deal of Perry City effort that goes on behind the scenes to host this event. More so I suspect than there is at regular club ranges. During the first 2 years of this match, we had over 40 registered shooters by this time. With 50 or more shooters registered by the start of the match. Last year at our shooter’s meeting I expressed my concern with the NRA breaking up its National Match dates, forcing many regular Raton attendees to make that trip twice AND, do it just before committing or coming to Utah for our State Championship. A very difficult and expensive thing to do. The majority of our Shooter’s so far have come from the Intermountain west and southwest. I know that there is an extremely busy and robust shooting schedule this year in those locales and I suspect that played a major role as well in what would appear to be a drop in attendance.

One of the things that I really wrestled with was the idea that participants would come, expecting to have the quality of match that they have enjoyed the first two years, only to have a handful of competitors actually be able to make it. What a disappointment that would be when so much money, time and effort goes in to traveling to our matches.

Going Forward

There are no plans to discontinue the Utah State Match. Perry City loves hosting the match, our competitors say they love coming and our local club and I love doing it.
Mayor Cronin and I still want to hold our match the first weekend in September, Labor Day weekend if possible. We realize that there will always be a few that cannot attend because of the holiday and that there are those that can attend because of it. I understand that the dates for the Nationals next year are in flux again. We will see what that means to our event. That said, we are committed to hosting this annual event and look forward to seeing you next year.

If you had entered our match for this year a full refund will be sent to you shortly.

Shoot straight,

Eric Halter
