Well, we are in the 96% zone here and things got no dimmer than when I look through the sights on my Shiloh. Couldn't imagine driving to Casper for the full deal. Back to casting.

Rained here went to the range and shot and it passed over with out seeing it.

I live NE of Casper. It was amazing, clear skies, and I had my whole family with me. It was perfect!

I was surprised it didn't get as dark as they said it would. Altho it did kick on the neighbors yard lights. Did see some stars but nothing like I thought we might. The crickets started singing, the temps dropped about 10 degrees. The amazing part was the blue hue in what light there was, and the 360 degree sunset . There was a couple of airliners flying over and you could see their lights, and their bellies were lit up all bright and silver.
I don't know if the craziness they predicted happened else where, but here out side of the thousands of people it wasn't to bad.
There was trespass complaint, a bunch of folks parked on the county road and climbed a butte. The deputies came up and told the folks on the butte to get down and get their vehicles back on to the county rightofway. All but two of them did, those 2 replied that the deputies should go F them selves they weren't coming down. Those 2 folks now reside in the county jail, and their vehicles have been impounded... They did have to tell one overly intelligent person that he would have to take his tent out of the middle of the county road, couldn't spend the night there...
Some of the NASA folks came rushing into the yard trying to figure out how to get down to Garnett hill, a couple of their high altitude balloons had come down some where on it. Told them how to get there, but don't know if they were able to find them before dark or not.
Recent report from folks traveling from here indicates that hi way 85 is plugged and complete standstill about 20 miles south of Torrington.
All and all I'm glad I got to experience it, and now understand a bit more why folks travel to see the "total" eclipse.

It was impressive from my driveway in Casper. I watched it with my grandsons after driving most of the night up from Raton. If you weren't in awe of it, sorry. It was a sight to remember if you were in the path.

I left Raton at 5 PM Sunday, drove through Limon, CO and entered Wyoming at Carpenter. Smooth sailing the whole way. When I hit US 85, the traffic started to pick up. (about 11:30 PM) I was going to take a nap at the rest area south of Hawk Springs but it was one big tail gate party. I drove on to Chugwater and pulled over by the north freeway ramp for a couple of hours. I got back on the road about 2 AM. Half of the traffic was moving along steady at 70-75 MPH, the other half was pushing 80-85. There wasn't enough traffic to be a problem. All of the interstate parking areas were packed as were the rest stops along the way. It looked like hundreds of vehicles parked in the railroad work yard between the N Platte and the Orin Jct rest area south of Douglas. All I saw was some moon reflections on windshields. Most of the traffic left the highway at or near Douglas, the drive into Casper was much quieter. Got home at 3:30, sounds like the right idea, I missed the crowded roads at sunup.

The news reported there was over 500000 vehicles entered Wy from the south on I 25. The ones I felt the worst for were those that had to go back home Monday afternoon. Sounds like on average it was 8-9 hours to go from Glendo to Cheyenne, normally about 1 1/2 hours...
Glad you made it back in good time Bryan.
I had my fuel barrels topped off, so that folks coming home from Raton, or trying to get home could get on the road just in case the fuel shortages that were predicted came thru, was really relieved that most of the drastic predictions didn't come thru.

I saw on the news about some whiners saying Wyoming needs to upgrade the highways to handle this kind of traffic. Once in a hundred years event? I don't think so. My daughter and family went home Tuesday with no problems.

LOL the one that cracked me up was the whining about how did Wyoming get picked to have this, and why did Wyoming schedule it on a Monday.
