RE: Time to get ready.........
Wow Kurt - got to focusing on that one with gas check still attached and the land imprints ... I bet you DID have fun with that bore afterwards.
I guess I really don't shoot anything fast unless jacketed and that is rare. Got to thinking about it and I think even in the 32 spec and 30-30 I was always in the 15-1600fps range or lower.
Oh - and not microgroove in either. So guess I've never been there. The load in the microgroove 45-70 was WELL under that, more like BP velocities.

What is a “waffle top”? I’ve owned a bunch of Marlins in my lifetime and allhave been very good shooters, except one 1893. But I’ve had no luck finding the right combination for the 30-30 with cast bullets of 309 and 310 diameter.

.311 here too.
Here are a couple pictures. They made from 1948 to 1952.
I really like the 336-As because I like the fore end cap over a barrel band. Though my 1953 RC shot well enough to make me forget that preference from time to time.
This was a nice 336-A(DL) in 32 or 30-30; not positive because I had twins.
This is my truck gun... probably not worth much. That and being a 35Rem has probably saved it.
Little better view of the waves on this one that I was doing some rehab on.

My lever actions are like lunchmeat, they're 'always' ready, a Turnbull '86 in 50-110 WCF fires a 700 gr flat nosed greaser over 90 grains of KIK 2F for 1240 fps, year model 1892 45-70 half round short mag '86 fires a 500 gr flat nose greaser with KIK 3F at 1237 fps, and another little '86 in year model 1891 in 40-65 WCF fires at 250 gr flat nosed grease groove bullet at 1600 fps with a big charge of OE3F.
I believe the two old lever guns have the black powder chambers as they love the stuff, these guns are fun as hell to shoot and hunt with.
