Cabin Fever
I am so past ready, except for more casting, to start shooting again. More power to you guys shooting over snow, those days are well behind me. Waiting for the Wyoming weather to cooperate, and waiting...

Reading the forums each day makes it worse. Don, I keep thinking about that 270 clone (40-90 BN) you were shooting at Alliance last year. I want to see that again.
Please post your load info again.

And Kurt’s got me thinking I shouldn’t give up on my Marlin 30-30 micro-groove for lever matches.

RE: Cabin Fever
Mike I'll see about getting some pictures of that round up for you.
In the meantime the load I shot at Alliance was in brand new unfireformed cases from BACO, 90 gr. of OE 1f, a thin Napa rubber cork wad, a dry lubed felt wad from Muzzle Loader Originals, capped off with a BACO 396415M bullet cast from 16-1 and wet wrapped in Seth Cole 55w patches 7/8 inch wide.

RE: Cabin Fever
Mike have you looked at the PM I sent about the micro .30-30?
I finally got my 336 micro .30-30 shooting pretty good and the recovered bullets look very good with no distortions of stripping like I found before. Even my Micro .444 with the new Accurate arms bullets look 100% better.

Carol kept me from getting cabin fever as much as I would let her LOL She said why don't you finish the back room that has been collecting stuff that should have been thrown in the dumpster and make it your man cave and get out of that basement mole den Idea Tongue Well this is a 18X22' room I intended on using for a work shop but the shed ended up for that use and we never needed this room I used for a garage more or less with a dirt floor so I got busy roughing in a full bath with a 5 foot shower, wall hung urinal lave and stool and dug out the floor and made a 4 foot deep crawl space and just got it rocked and taped almost ready for paint. Now Carol said man that sure would make a fine bedroom Undecided I said nope too big Big Grin
But all of this fun has kept me from burning powder working on my new .40-65 getting it ready for the upcoming silhouette match soon and snow is falling again getting deep.
The Honey dues are going on hold.....maybe Smile

RE: Cabin Fever
Mike it's the Accurate 31-151-G I ordered the three cavity mould and it drops all three at .3099" very easy to cast with and all three bullets are identical.
I shot this with the gas check and with out and it shoots well either way. I have picked up a couple and the once with out a gas check has very slight mouse nibbles above the recess but it did not show up on the target of bore. I cast them on the hard side around 14 bhn or so.
I did not run over the chronograph but they sure get down range in a hurry Smile

RE: Cabin Fever
Here are some I found Mike. The top are shot with the 93 and the bottom with the 336 microgroove.
They sure look better then the load below that actually stretched the bullet longer then a unfired one Smile

Kurt shooting a smokeless powder cartridge, I don’t know what to think of that, it doesn’t seem right. Kurt, are you shooting .312 diameter?
I want you to know I’m doing this for Sue, I’m sticking with the 44-40 with 34 grains or so of 2Fg.

RE: Cabin Fever
Mike no they drop from the mould .3099" you might say .310.
I seat the gas check with a .309" die.

Now I don't know if Brian allows a gas check bullet for the lever match or not. I might have done all this for nothing if they are not allowed.
I sent him a E-Mail asking.
But I have seen all kinds of gas checks by the iron when I helped him set up.
