fun weekend
I just got home from a 500/600 yard match in Cadillac Michigan. The weather was ideal for a match just heavy fog in the early morning that burned off when the sun got higher above the trees. Winds were calm but switching. Ideal for shooting. But only 15 or 16 shooters showed up for Ron and Barb Walters match.
I used my new .40-65 CPA with a scope mounted to get used to shooting a scoped rifle. I been fighting using a scope for 5-6 years but I never could hit the inside of a barn door from the inside using a scope. We started on the 600 yard line and the four sighter shots I took looked good so I went for record and the groups started to open up and two complete misses after the fourth shot the scope flew forward off the rear block with just the front mount holding it. The screws would not stay tight and I ended up with a 40 out of 10 shots. The second and third relay I checked the screws every 3 shots and at times they were loose 1/4 turn. For the 600 I had a 40/80/and a 83 with 3 X a disaster big time.
At the end of the match I put locktite on the screws and let them set over night. The 500 the next day went better plus I changed to a different bullet and load that shot well with a 91 but I had a flyer that went out to the 6 ring at 2 o-clock.the second and third relay I shot a 95 and a 94 with 3 X. The 10 ring was 2 MOA.
The good load was with 62 gr of 2F OE with a 1.5" long elliptical 427 gr.
The rifle will be a good shooter with a little more work. I ended up in 4th place with a 483-6X
The load for the 600 yard
Brooks .393" dia. 1.395" long 390 gr. prolate. wrapped to .401" with southworth paper 100% cotton
64 gr of 1.5 Swiss compressed .080"
one OJ carton wad
one .037" plastic ice-cream bucket wad
No lube
Br-2 pro
For the 500 yard load
BA 395" dia. elliptical 1.5" long 424 gr wrapped to 401" same paper as above.
62 gr 2F OE comp. .125" OJ wad .060" LPDE and a .012" craft paper wad under the bullet.
No lube
Br-2 pri.
I feel this rifle will be a good shooter when I get to work up a load and testing it at 500 yards I just threw these loads together hoping for the best.

RE: fun weekend
I'm glad you had fun and the CPA shows promise.
Happy to hear you taught the scope to stay.

RE: fun weekend
Hanz I called MVA and they are sending me some new screws.
But I will carry a big stick and make that scope behave.
