spotting-scopes?
I am shopping for a different spotter for this year. Sorta have to stay below $600 or so. Need to see .45 holes @ 300 yds.

What do you suggest?

RE: spotting-scopes?
Jim I got ahold of one of the Vortex scopes, and it's a real good scope for not much money. I can see 44 holes at 300 yds. I got this one out of the bargain cave at Cabela's.

Don, is it a Vortex Viper or another model. Got HD glass?

Think it's the viper with the angled eyepiece. Guy at Cabela's said bird watchers really like them. I think there's a higher priced model that has a few more bells and whistles and as sharp as this one is I'ld imagine that one would be a really good one.

RE: spotting-scopes?
Jim--If it is a Vortex, it is a lot of scope for the money. I run Vortex 10x42 and 6x30 binoculars, a 3x9x40 Vortex Crossfire rifle scope, and a Vortex Ranger 1000 rangefinder. All have given me top tier service, and the binoculars have made the trip to Africa with me three times. I don't think you will be disappointed with the Vortex spotter. Shoot straight, rdnck.

In these parts trying to see holes in paper at 300 yards on many days is akin to...well....you may as well be taking a 'whizz' against the wind because the mirage won't let you see a hole if made by a 105MM howitzer!

Here is where I bought mine, and it's $100.00 cheaper than Optics Planet.
