My home muzzleloader club is trying to get some benchrest matches started this next year. Years ago there was a good bunch of bench shooters in my area, West Central Missouri. But with time and the general slow down of muzzleloading shooting most drifted off to other shooting sports. The club gradually turned into a mostly offhand shooting at animal targets and a bunch of bang and clang stuff. So a hand full of us are hoping to get some more serious shooting back into the club and meeting some reluctance with some of the members. A lot of them keep saying that we need to get more shooters but don't want to open the club to new venues of shooting. We have 88 firing points and ususally 15 to 20 shooters on a monthly shoot. That leaves a lot of room in my opinion.
So we are going to try to get a couple of bench matches on the monthly shoots and then add two one day bench matches one in July another in June with a three day event in August. Funny thing as we have been taking about this several of the club members have said that they do have a benchrest rifle "Haven't shot it years", well get to dang thing out shake the cob webs out of it and shoot it!
I'm hoping to get a Turkey Plank and a Table Shoot throwed into the mix to just can't try to do too many things to fast might get "Planked" out of the club.
We have 2 daughters and their families that live in Lawrence, KS and we get down there several times a year (e.g. Christmas, birthdays, etc). A day of shooting w/ you guys now and then should be very doable, depending on timing, of course.
