MVA Sharps mid range sight ?
being a Registered Land Surveyor since 1973, I firmly know how to snug up the knob on a delicate instrument such as a rear sight on my Shiloh .40-65. anyways me and the sight are having issues, I have sent the sight back to whoever Lumpy Grits instructed me to sent it to and it was repaired quickly and with a speedy return, great service.

they stated that I might have been over tightened the eye disc and pinged the tension thingy, anyways the sight started doing the same thing again yesterday as I sent 30 rounds down range

the rear sight will decrease in elevation as I am firing the rifle and I am afraid to really crank on the eye disc to bottom it out on tightness

what am I missing here

You do have the plastic washer installed on the eye disc, 'rite'??
That washer is what clamps the eye disc to the staff.
You just tighten lightly with 2 fingers, till the eye disc slips in your fingers a bit. That's it.........
Can you post pictures of the sight?

RE: MVA Sharps mid range sight ?
imo, the plastic disc has to be installed correctly since the eyepiece has not been removed from the sight, the sight was returned to MVA about 10 months or so ago and I have not removed eye disc since receiving sight back. yes I tighten with 2 fingers

I might be guilty of over tightening sight though I call myself being careful

Can you see that the plastic washer is in fact, in place?
Try this-remove eye disc. Then remove plastic washer from eye disc. Reinstall eye disc without washer, and see how far the eye disc will screw in till it stops.
Now, look at the gap that is now left between the back of the eye disc and the staff . Is it less than the thickness of the plastic washer? It should be-That will show you, that the eye disc is clamping down on the sight's staff when tightened with the washer in place.
If need be, a brass #10 washer works well in place of the plastic one.

me to, LG, my children are driving in today, gotta sorta help them move furniture out of their grandmothers house, she was 90 and died 2 weeks ago, my ex mother-in-law was a wonderful person and our love/friendship never changed after I divorced her daughter

I would always have Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner at her house and my girlfriend would always attend with me, pretty amazing imo

CL

You didn't state which sight it is. The 108 Midrange? or the 130 ?
I will assume that it's the 108. Chances are that you have the wrong eyecup for this sight. If when you tighten the eye cup and you can still adjust the elevation with the eyecup tight you are using a soule sight eye cup that has shorter threads than the 108 uses. The 108 does not use a plastic washer behind the eye cup like the soule sights do.
Look at the original eye cup that came with that sight and compare it with the Hadley you will see that the threads on the cups are completly different.
The reason a dog has so many friends is because he wags his tail instead of his tongue.
