Well the PA NRA Registered Paper Target Black Powder Match is not in the can. I had the opprotunity to stop over for the practice on Friday and went again Saturday to lend a hand if needed. The didn't need me so I was able to set and watch the match and take a few pics. I will be very honest up front at the turn out for this match. We only had 6 shooters compete. That is a shame as it is a very nice match and a very high quality range. Now the range is set out in the middle of no where and at one time it had been strip mined. People have put a lot of time and money into this range to make it as nice as possible. It is flat with raised firing points at 2,3,5(I think), 6, 8, 9, 1000 yards. It also has a covered bench rest area at the 1000 yard line. Marked firing positions, and probably the nicest pit area I have ever seen. The firing points are all gravel covered and smooth to make a very comfortable place to lay down and shoot. They have a nice large target storage shed in the pit as well as a parking area off to the side of the pit. And for those moments of urgent need they have job johnys set up at I think every 200 yards, so it is never more than a 100 yard hike to the little house if you will.

As far as conditions, well you couldn't have asked for a much better day to shoot long range. It was sunny with a few clouds, not quite what you would call a bright day but not quite overcast either. There was a breeze that ran from right to left mostly are the target area and yes there was some mirage. From what I heard from the shooters conversations I think that about 6 minutes of wind was the most anyone had on.
The course of fire was 30 minutes at each range for sighter's and 10 shots for record. The first relay shot and then went to the pits, the second relay then shot 800 and 900 and went to the pics and then the first shot 900 and 1000 and swamped. It got started around 9 and was finished up about 1:30 in the afternoon.

I hope this post will help to get some more people thinking about coming and visiting PA for this match next year.
