Best buttstock?
Whats the best buttstock style for a hunting rifle? Is some drop desirable? I am slender build and currently I prefer the straight-grip style and barrel-sights.

A new build may be a sharps style rifle.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

Jim, The best answer to your question is really dependent on a matter of personal taste. For a Sharps to be used for hunting, I still like the military style of buttstock.

Jim.

I favor the slim crescent butstock for hunting. It takes a lot of weight off the rifle. For hunting you never feel the recoil when you send lead down range. The rifle comes up fast and points well with all of the unnecessary weight.
This rifle weighs under 10#with it's 30" light weight barrel. The only thing I would change with this rifle and that would be adding sling swivels and maybe a 2" shorter barrel.

The reason a dog has so many friends is because he wags his tail instead of his tongue.

Count me in on the #3 straight grip and military butt for a general purpose rifle group.Big Grin
