I inherited a Premier in .454. Shot it a few times and found it to be more gun than I wanted. I could load it down but a stable full of .45 Colts live here and are not so big and heavy. If I need a rifle, I will take one but the rifle will not replace the hand gun.

No dought that the .454 has plenty of horsepower
I very seldom shoot it at it's full loading. 31 grns H-110 w/300gn+ bullets.
I have won a few target matches with it using 9 gn Unique w/255 gr swc.

Never owned one of these but have fired several. They do shoot great groups & are fitted like a fine watch.

RE: Freedom Arms
Right now I have a .22 LR and a .44 mag, both in the silhouette model. Previously owned a .357 mag and a model 97 in .45 Colt. Hard to beat these guns. Very accurate and extremely well made. I would really like to get a model 97 in .44 special and a model 83 in .41 mag.

RE: Freedom Arms
Went with the .454 because at the time('97), that was the 'Big Daddy'.
Also the fact that I could shoot .45 Colt ammo(I don't).
A few thousand rounds later, this revolver is just as 'tight' as it was the day I got it.

I went with the M97 in 44 special with the 4.25" and had them do their thing with rounding the back point off the grip. It is great - it's like the M97 was designed for the 44 special. Plenty of power for deer sized game, carries very nice and it shoots so good it's scary.

I've also got a field grade in 454 with an extra cylinder for the 45 Colt which sees less use compared to the 44. I doubt you could wear one of these out the way they're built. They are both very accurate precise revolvers!

RE: Freedom Arms
I went with the round grip on the M97 44 special for the compactness. Carry it in a high ride holster and it doesn't stick you in the ribs. Butt I think you may sacrifice a small bit of control though and I don't think I'd do it on the M83 but it might be right for others.
