Don,
Bought one for Savannah when she was ten, before she got partial to her Anschutz, she's won several of those trophy plaques with it. When my nephew shows up with his Henry he doesn't seem to have any problem hitting, he's got a couple of trophy plaques & first place checks from the fall jackpot or two, same with Savannah. I & my brother have shot both of the kids Henrys & don't have one bit of trouble hitting with them. The actions are butter smooth and tight. Both of these guns are
Golden Boys w/octagon barrels. If you'll remember Savannah shot a 36/40 and placed well in the top five of all shooters at the hill, & you know how tough that 22 shoot is, if you drop 2 you might win it might not, there's been more than one perfect score there. I've shot it in the some of the same matches as Savannah and shot high scores. We love them. Just don't take it apart to clean them you'll be shocked.
Target sights? I believe I put a Lyman peep sight on it at one time with the different height staffs, ya got to drill one hole for the base. I removed it, prefer the original sights on Savannah's Golden Boy, not so much on Jesse's (nephew) Golden Boy, the front sight is quite a bit finer, it would be tough to see for old eyes.
I also should state that these guns were not ordered at the same time, Brett (brother) seen Savannah's, picked it up and couldn't believe how smooth and accurate it was and had one ordered.
I haven't heard a single complaint about a
Golden Boy, not one!!
I'm going to try to remember to check Savannah's rifle & see about the front sight, if I remember correctly the sight is dovetailed like normal so just buy a different sight.
Just remember we oft get what we pay for, I don't know this one way or the other, is it possible that the
Golden Boy rifles with the octagon barrels shoot better??? I believe the other "Henrys" are
less money, but they have a round barrel correct?? This is recalled from memory, sometimes my CRS flares up!!! I believe that they have
non Golden Boy rifles that have an octagon barrel still??
After much testing on paper targets both rifles like several different flavors of ammo, I have quite a few targets saved with just a ragged hole in them!!
enjoy!!
