Don,

Bought one for Savannah when she was ten, before she got partial to her Anschutz, she's won several of those trophy plaques with it. When my nephew shows up with his Henry he doesn't seem to have any problem hitting, he's got a couple of trophy plaques & first place checks from the fall jackpot or two, same with Savannah. I & my brother have shot both of the kids Henrys & don't have one bit of trouble hitting with them. The actions are butter smooth and tight. Both of these guns are Golden Boys w/octagon barrels. If you'll remember Savannah shot a 36/40 and placed well in the top five of all shooters at the hill, & you know how tough that 22 shoot is, if you drop 2 you might win it might not, there's been more than one perfect score there. I've shot it in the some of the same matches as Savannah and shot high scores. We love them. Just don't take it apart to clean them you'll be shocked.

Target sights? I believe I put a Lyman peep sight on it at one time with the different height staffs, ya got to drill one hole for the base. I removed it, prefer the original sights on Savannah's Golden Boy, not so much on Jesse's (nephew) Golden Boy, the front sight is quite a bit finer, it would be tough to see for old eyes.

I also should state that these guns were not ordered at the same time, Brett (brother) seen Savannah's, picked it up and couldn't believe how smooth and accurate it was and had one ordered.

I haven't heard a single complaint about a Golden Boy, not one!!

I'm going to try to remember to check Savannah's rifle & see about the front sight, if I remember correctly the sight is dovetailed like normal so just buy a different sight.

Just remember we oft get what we pay for, I don't know this one way or the other, is it possible that the Golden Boy rifles with the octagon barrels shoot better??? I believe the other "Henrys" are less money, but they have a round barrel correct?? This is recalled from memory, sometimes my CRS flares up!!! I believe that they have non Golden Boy rifles that have an octagon barrel still??

After much testing on paper targets both rifles like several different flavors of ammo, I have quite a few targets saved with just a ragged hole in them!!

enjoy!!

Brian, thanks for the info.
I should of updated this but have been busy with other things.
Anyway last week we were in Sidney Ne. and just happened to stop by a quaint little sporting goods store out along the interstate....
They had there a good selection of Henry's, one of which is the standard gun with the octagon barrel, and it was priced at $329,,, Carol really liked the rifle, and so we loaded up the visa with the rifle and one of those 2500 round cans of federal champion ammo.
I did tell her she might be considered one of them right wing radicals, what with a rifle and 2500 rounds of ammo and all...
Anyway we got home a few days later, and the bugger shoots rather well. I did have to adjust the slide in the buckhorn sight to get the poi, somewhat in agreement with the poa. I think this rifle with it's buckhorn and brass bead front sight is fully capable of being competive at most 22 "gong" style matches as to date it has shown perfect ability to hit the NRA official 22 chicken from 50 yds.. that was done with the Remington golden ammo in the bulk box from Walmart that is several years old and oft the object of disdain from most internet marksmen..
Further testing will need be done to see if this thing really can shoot or not..

Don,

I've done testing on I think around 19 different flavors of ammo for the various 22's we've got and the paper tells me on several rifles that the Remington game loads shoot surprisingly well. I'd of never thunk it!

Don
I picked up a Henry basic lever .22 for my son at a local pawn shop. It shot 6" right at 25 yds. I could not drift the front sight over enough. I called Henry on a lark to see what they say. I told them I bought it used and what the problem was. They said send it in and they will fix it. Two weeks later I had a rebarreled gun in my hands at no charge. Shoots great now. They also sell an upgrade steel barrel band and front sight for a few bucks.

A great company to deal with.

RE: Henry golden boy 22
Mike thanks for the info. This one has the octagon barrel with the brass bead front and the buckhorn rear. It initially shot about 6 inches high at 25 yds, and I was wondering if I had a tall enough front sight on hand to bring the poi down. Then I noticed the screw head in the buckhorn, and realized you could adjust that rear sight notch just like on a Winchester.... So all is well now and while we haven't shot it since the other day, it's sure made Carol happy as she has her own 22 she can shoot at Ekalaka now.
