Can anyone tell anything about the .44-70 2-1/10 Remington cartridge? Is is it a bottleneck or straight, parent case etc? Is it similar to the .44-70 Maynard?
I see that C. Sharps lists that chambering for their 1885's. I'm thinking about a mid-range rifle with a heavier barrel than my silhouette rifle. A Winchester #5 profile in either .40, .44, or .45...

The way CSA does it, it's a 45-70 sized down to a 44 case mouth. Think 40-65 with just a weee bit bigger bullet. That cartridge would make a heck of a good sillouette/midrange gun, and with the right bullet, etc, may not even do to badly at the 1000 yd line.
Don, then isn't that just the modern version of the .44-70 Maynard? Or is the Maynard a slightly longer case?
If I go that way I'll likely change the reamer as I'd prefer a paper patch rifle. It'd have a little more room for powder that way too which would give it some versatility.
