I will assume that it's the 108. Chances are that you have the wrong eyecup for this sight. If when you tighten the eye cup and you can still adjust the elevation with the eyecup tight you are using a soule sight eye cup that has shorter threads than the 108 uses. The 108 does not use a plastic washer behind the eye cup like the soule sights do.
Look at the original eye cup that came with that sight and compare it with the Hadley you will see that the threads on the cups are completly different.

But, what confuses me(yeah-it's easy
)is why MVA would return the sight like this. IF, the sight was shipped with the Hadley in the first place........

Gary that crossed my mind also when I made the reply. I don't think Jim would let that get by either but I was not sure which sight CL really has.
I have sent two sights back because I bent the lead screw ramming the cleaning rod handle into the screw before I got smart enough to take the sight off when I clean the rifle. But the sights always came back as new as well with the broken parts.

Gary here is the 108 midrange. If you look at the eyecup you see that it has no washer. It screws through the staff and into the minute hash mark plate and when you tighten the eyecup it pulls the minute plate tight to the staff.

Both the setups from MVA(Soule vs, Sharps), look like a good solid 'clamp' when the correct eye disc is snugged down.

ok, I removed entire sight from rifle, laid down a large piece of clean white paper and removed eye disc from sight, nothing fell out and while looking thru magnifying glass stuck a large sowing needle into threaded hole to check on washer that I assume is to be inside hole, aka no washer, and this is the first time the eye piece has been removed since Jim returned the sight to me.
is it possible for a plastic or synthetic type washer to break into and fall out will adjusting the sight?
I am liking the #10 brass washer idea

Is the sight like Kurt's picture??
The washer(if it even has one)slips over the tread of the eye disc.
Think of the washer, as a brake pad for locking the eye disc to the staff.

I am guessing no washer Gary, the threaded post on each sight, the original and hadley, both look exactly the same and are the same length
