You have something there about getting the barrel dry and clean. It's not the lead that causes the problem it's the tin. lead is a lubricant tin sticks to metal. That is why I use anti freeze it has a lubricant in it and not only that it keeps the patches from loosing their moisture from evaporation.

I get better accuracy using a blow tube till the heat builds up or the humidity gets to low. Blow tubing if you keep the fouling moist I think keeps the consistency and the ES.
