Chris I'm thinking the lower velocity most likely was because you weren't getting a good bore seal as soon as the lube cookie did.
If you have a NAPA store or such there, you might want to get some of their rubberized cork gasket material. That stuff works great to get the bore sealed, and it's really making this 44-77 set up and pay attention.
Kenny uses that stuff and that's where I got the idea from and it dang sure worked wonders.
