Paper Patch question

Ok Don------------so positive things can happen with the addition of lube to the patch--------------and its period correct,
(i don't have the reference library you and others have to research this kind of stuff and appreciate the feedback !!!!!!!)

Do we have any ideas about what physical results was Remmington trying to achieve, were they solving some particular problem ?

Is it just a 1870's marketing hype -------------- a way to reduce barrel wear due to the paper patch ?-----an accuracy variable relative to the particular rifle, like different brands of primers ?
