Here you go Sam.
That is a nice looking bullet but I think it would be better without the wash board ripples on the shank Tongue Smile The bullet is too large in diameter for the .44-100 st so I swaged it down to .443" and it will just fit the chamber loaded in the case. I have three cases loaded for breach seating that bullet fully into the throat. Cases are not in the photo.

I got six loaded in the .44-77, .44-90bn and the .44-100 rem.
All are loaded with 3F OE because I'm starting to work with this powder because it showed some good results with the loads I worked up last fall using the 3F. I will see how it works in the .44's.
The .44-77 has 72 gr. The .44-2-5/8 BN has 100 gr and the .44-100 Rem st has 90 gr I will see how it works with your 485 gr bullets.
The 77 and 2-5/8 has a 1/19 rot and the .44 rem has a 1/17 rot.
the .44-100 breach seated cases have 100 ge in them.
If the thunder storms are over in the morning I will shoot them before it gets to hot.

Kurt, it almost sounds like you are as anxious to try these bullets as I am to see how well they do. I am hoping that they do very well or at a minimum they perform acceptably.
Looking forward to your report.

When I got home from the Doctors office I really didn't feel like doing anythingUndecided had a bunch of holes poked in me and probably glow like a lightning bug when the lights go out from the junk they shot into my blood, but the weather was just about ideal for shooting some test loads and It would take my mind off the morning Tongue. No wind, good light, good temp at 80 degrees so I just had to step out in the back yard and shootBig Grin

Sam.
I loaded all loads using 3F Olde Eynsford. A powder I have not used yet in the .44's but it showed some very good results in the .45-2.4 so I'm starting to work up loads for the .44's.

The first target I used your bullets shot out of the .44-90bn with a 1/19 ROT at 100 yards. All shots where from 100 yds. I had tang sights on this rifle.

The second target I used the same rifle and powder loads but I used my bullets I normally use for this rifle. I marked it Sam's by mistake.

The third target and the rest I shot using your bullets.
The .44-100 has a very tight chamber that I only use PP bullets in so I had the swage the bullets down to be able to seat them in a case and I knew that would not be the best. This rifle has a MVA scope on it and a 1/17 ROT.

The forth target I breach seated the bullet fully into the throat with the case seated making contact with the bullet base.

The fifth target is my .44-77 with a 1/19 ROT and it has barrel sights on it. Lawrence rear with a blade front. It sure likes this bullet and powder load I had in it.
I don't have enough bullets to really work up a good load using the 3F O-E powder but from the 12 rounds I used of your bullets it shows some good results. I will take the rest and work up a 2 shot ladder test load using the .44-2-5/8bn. I don't think I need to look any farther with the .44-77.

RE: Here you go Sam.
Kurt, it sure sucks getting old, especially when the one you come to depend on seems to constantly want to suck your blood and money.
From the looks of things, and yes this is a very limited test, I have chosen well on a bullet. Your 77 seems to like this bullet a lot. And the OE seems like it is working well also. All in all, for just a put it together and shoot it loads they are all pretty good other than the one where you swagged the bullet down and I did have some reservations on that. Thanks for the test and if you want some more bullets let me know and I will do a better packing job on them.
I am thinking that one last thing I need to make is an insert for my bushing die to do a little taper crimp to take the flair out of the case mouths. I am thinking of boring it out to about .449 and then cut a 5 to 8 degree taper. I think that I will make a spacer so that the ring will be able to slide up and down in the die and that way I will not have to adjust it much to get the crimp that I want. I get that done one of these days and I should have everything set up that I need to load this monster and not have to invest in a set of dies. All I have to purchase yet is another die ring and a decaping rod. Its great having the tools and skills to tinker around with things like this.
You take care of yourself and good luck with the rest of the bullets.
Thanks again
Sam
