here is what I do not understand
10 shots @ 200 yds
damp patch wrapped around nylon brush, followed by 2 damp patches

rounds 1-6, right group, measure 2.9 inches @ 200 yards, the group is finished out with the other 4 shots to the left

I felt good with each shot

what gives

I then moved to my first ever 300 yard target and once I quit messing with the sights, felt pretty good, bottom group is 6 inches

First group looks normal. Correct wind deflection for a right hand twist barrel and no wind flags.

Lower target same thing except the four vertically strung shots.

The targets indicate a good consistent load. So, if the four high shots are the last shots in that ten shot string, I would guess that you are reacting to the recoil and pushing forward against the butt. If shooting off cross sticks, will force the muzzle up. Of course it could be something else. I have a .38 Badger barrel that did that. The bore had no taper. I lapped a taper into it and shrunk the groups in half.
Have you tried a dry last patch?

Joe.

RE: here is what I do not understand
vertical stringing on the second target is from different sight settings, 1st was .58 min., 2nd was .56 min, 3rd was 54 min and the group of 7 was at .52 min, I left it low on purpose so I could see each shot through my spotting scope

Gary

I can go with the barrel heat, maybe not on the fouling

after each shot I ran a nylon brush wrapped with a damp 2 inch patch down the barrel followed by 2 damp patches, the last patch would exit the barrel basically clean

Have you tried shooting with a spotter -------both to help you concentrate on "shooting"-----forget about everything except form and follow through-----------a spotter "coach" will notice things in form that you simply can't be aware of.

I have a bad habit of simply tensing up as i work through a string-----------my spotter will remind me and allow me to settle back into good form.

Dave

trust me, there is no one in my area that has any earthly idea as to what I am doing

I have been shooting with a firm right hand grip with rifle pulled tight into shoulder, I will ease up some of the pressure, as far as keeping head down and good follow through, I feel real comfortable in this area, this was something that I learned or taught myself during 13 years of competition skeet shooting even though we are talking about 2 different shooting disciplines

"I will ease up some of the pressure"
WHY do you do this? Hold hard.....

RE: here is what I do not understand
I hold hard because of my shotgun shooting, try breaking a habit that you did 50,000 times a summer for 13 years, us shotgun shooters learned to pull gun in tight and hold head extra firm down, doing this everytime would easily make the head and gun move together real well. all the top shooters in my area did this with shotguns.

personally I also feel less recoil with extra firm pressure
