What a difference a Wad Makes
After many months of off and on testing I got back to shooting my 40-65 rolling block. The last load that worked pretty well was 385 grain straight sided .395 bullet with two wraps of tracing paper on top of 58 grains of 3Fg KIK powder. With a milk carton wad on the powder and a 3/16 DGL lube cookie. It shot 1 ¾ inch groups at a hundred yards and 4 ½ inch at 200 yards.
So reading through some posts here I read where someone was using an additional wad on top of the lube cookie. So today I put another milk carton wad on top of the lube cookie and at lunch time from work I went to my club and shot 11 rounds at a hundred yards.
Well, what a difference a wad makes. My first shot punched out the X, good start with the fouler shot, than the next 10 rounds when in to a pretty little cloverleaf 1 ½ inches below my fouler. The group measured 1 ¼ of an inch with one called out otherwise it would have been under an inch. To say I was ecstatic would be an understatement.
Now I know this was only a hundred yards and only one group and even if the improvement is the same at 200 it still needs to be tested at competition ranges but I am feeling very positive about this rifle with this load. I am writing this because I want to thank all of you who have shared your experiences so freely and answered my questions so succinctly.

Keep us posted Dan. Always enjoy reading what folks are doing.
