RE: just took my own advice
Here is the tool with the change.
The left tool is before the change and the right is what I had him make it so I can cam the tool left or right.

RE: just took my own advice
my mould has turned up.
the bullet that came with is within 1/10 ot 1 thou of advertised diameter and very round.
also very smooth.
the package disappeared off tracking a week ago which was a bit of a worry.
will have to get some cast and patched and tested.
this bullet looks short next to the 1.5" and 1.55" bullets I have been successfully using in fixed ammo.
should have no issues with lack of stability, as the longer bullets are o.k.
keep safe,
bruce.

RE: just took my own advice
kurt,
I am not getting off on the bullet as much as really experimenting with the loading technique to its full potential.
I wanted a bullet to patch to 0.001 over bore, and weakened last night using the one supplied with the mould.
it does that and seats firmly with the palm seater as hoped.
the nose is a little ugly from being pushed out with a rod, so not good for photos.
if this works better I will have one made 1.5+" long for long range.
I must confess to becoming very comfortable with elliptical noses.
cannot test for 2 full weeks, and the test will have to be a scheutzen match.
after this match will be another (1 shot) match, where the shooter closest to the centre wins.
the prize is a wooden target with all the bullet holes in it, named for the shooters, and the responsibility of supplying next year's target with the picture of your choice on it.
will try to get some photos up after a casting session.
after rolling dual diameter bullets for so long, it is an interesting experience rolling a bullet with a parralell shank.
keep safe,
bruce.

I shoot my match bullets tight. one to two thousands over bore at times. When you get that tight the thumb just don't do the trick. But that is where I get top accuracy. But it's hard when the rifle is a Sharps, especially one with a scope mounted on it and the long funnel type lead my rifles have makes it hard to seat the round. But that long lead is a big plus seating that tight patched bullet. I also use a palm type seater or even a cartridge seater I carry in my pocket in case I need it to get that last 1/8" seated to close the breach.
This is where the 44-1/2 Stevens action really smiles with the chamming action it has.
I'm with you with the elliptical I use them in the 16 and 17 twist and they shoot quite well.

RE: just took my own advice
kurt,
gunlaker has suggested that you, he and myself might be the only 3 people in the world that breech seat bore diameter pp bullets the proper way.
this is possibly not far from the truth.
which is a pity when you discover that it was so common that it was not considered worth carrying on about in the day.
it was just taken for granted that if you wanted real accuracy, you breech seated. long range and scheutzen.
even 10 year olds would have been able to do it.
given that paper patching makes brains hurt, and breech seating makes brains hurt as well, the two combined must come as an annurism to some people.
the other issue is the urban myth of the airgap. someone said it "so it must be true".
the proof is however in the eating, and too few are prepared to swim against the tide of apathy.
keep safe,
bruce.

well I cast 20 bullets last night.
washed the mould with acetone, then heated it on the hotplate.
cast 3 to get started and even things out then 20 that weighed between 418.2 and 418.5 gns.
no break in required here!
if the mould has anything to nitpick, it could have the sprue cutter a little sharper.
this is easily done with fine abrasive on a piece of glass, but is probably not worth the effort.
most other brands are no better in this area.
the bullet finish is extremely smooth with absolutely no evidence of tool marks.
bullets just fall out of the mould.
if this is typical of baco, they are probably the best value for money moulds around.
keep safe,
bruce.

RE: just took my own advice
shot a scheutzen match today with above bullets patched to 0.401 in a 0.400 bore.
seated with a push seater to be 0.125 in front of the case.
85 gns swiss 1.5 droptubed so a 0.060 ldpe wad is level with the top of the case.
shot a p.b.e. score at that discipline, equalling top score with a 38/55 scheutzen rifle breech seating greasers.
these bullets are way short for the twist in this rifle, thus proving that it is very hard to overspin a bullet.
keep safe,
bruce.
