2016, 2nd year @ Silhouettes

Well, in 2016 I've decided to up my game a notch or 2. In 2015 I just bought cast bullets, drop tube powder in, compress, and shoot. I never prepped any brass, weighed bullets or took much time to develope an accurate load as I could have.
2016 will be different.
So far I have purchased a L.E. Wilson trimmer, large Lee pot with PID, 400 pounds of lead, 500 pieces of brass, 8 bullet moulds, Sagebrush annealing machine, actual size Steel silhouette targets, 44" diameter steel 800 yard target, and a Vortex spotting scope.
I have been busy weighing, measuring, trimming, and flash hole prepping brass. That is really time consuming and boring. I've handle each piece of brass at least 6 times. In 2 weeks hopefully I'll start casting my own bullets. I'm pretty blessed that I have my own personal range that I can set up 2 silhouette targets of each animal at the correct distance in order to practice. I also have room to set up a 44" diameter steel target at 800 yards in order to get some long range testing in.
I'm shooting my Browning 45-70 again this year for silhouette iron sight class.
My Sharps 45-70 with a new MVA scope will be used this year in silhouette scoped class for the 1st time.
This year will also be my 1st at going to Raton in July. If all goes well I will be shooting Silhouttes iron and scope and maybe Creedmore.

To all the shooters that post on here and other forums thank you for your dedication and input of this sport. It has helped me tremendously. I'm no master shooter, I just enjoy competing. My most ferocious competitor is myself, that's who I show up to beat the most. If I can show up and beat my last score, I'm very happy. I love shooting these guns, especially with black powder the way they were meant to be shot.

I wish you the best. Casting is fun especialy when you are hitting targets with bullets you made. I am hoping to get in to competition next year after I retire from active duty and get settled in to a new place. The wife says I cant buy any more rifles till I buy her a house so my sharps will have to wait 7-8 months.

Got the practice animals burnt out. Gotta put them on swingers this week and set them up at the home range.

I can't wait to try to hit that 800 yard plate. Gonna mount it to a 4'x8' piece of white 3/4" plywood then hang it from an old swing set.
Got my new BACO money bullet mold in with 2 reduced bands. Gonna start casting in a week or 2. Gonna start with 80 grains of Goex Cartridge powder in my 45-70 sharps with heavy 16" twist GM 30" barrel.
It'll be fun.

Congratulations Kevin ! I envy you the opportunity to set this up in your back yard and all the fun and trigger time you'll be able to have. Will be great for load development as well You'll be pounding that 44" disc pretty constantly in short order I imagine. Well done and enjoy yourself.

I'm a newbie here all around, to the board and BPCR I am going to use an original trapdoor for shooting I am not going to jump in and get any thing more just have fun with this one at the range and some matches it fits into.
Being new I have no idea of the rules or requirements for silhouette matches or if I am able to shoot in them. I am 73 now and have had both knees replaced so if prone getting up and down is difficult and kneeling is a total no no.
I have seen mention of people shooting sitting can do that, and standing "off hand" is good for me have been shooting that way forever Army and a number of years trap shooting. Carried a 22 average in trap and expert with the 06 Garand they made me an assistant instructor at the rifle range trying to teach the un knowing how. I am also a left hand shooter so that made it harder.
So if I am going to do silhouette I need info on the procedure to do so and if it is even possible with a trapdoor. What do ya all think?
