Looking at scopes

RE: Looking at scopes
Hi Eric,
The mirage is definitely not as clear and easy to read as through a good spotting scope, but it was certainly clear enough to notice if there was a significant change.

I have had my MVA scope's rib catch on the front mount of the DZ Arms mount once. It prevented the scope from sliding under recoil. I imagine that some debris must have got wedged in there somehow as it hasn't happened since. After this happened though, once I return the scope to battery, I lift up on it ( right at the front mount ) to make sure that all is free. Eron Ahmer told me that he sometimes has to clean up the slot in the plunger on the DZ Arms front mount to get it to work properly with the MVA scope.

One other thing that I like about those mounts is that it's easy to read the numbers and assign a value to the no-wind zero. I was lucky that early in the match I encountered a basically zero wind condition and found that my zero wind at 1000 was closer to 100 than the 104 that I'd calculated ( about a minute and a third off). This made it super easy to deal with. Having the same situation with the MVA mounts, or a Soule sight that's improperly canted is a little harder to deal with.

The only thing is that the DZ mounts have less vertical range than the MVA mounts. With my 23" scope and the standard MVA mounts it's no trouble to go from 100 to 1000 without changing blocks. With the DZ mounts I am within 3 minutes of the lowest possible setting to get on paper at 200m at my local range, and I needed 0.358" to get to 1000 at Byers. That would be about .388" at Phoenix, leaving about 20 minutes of spare elevation before the rear mount tops out. Rear block is 0.375" and the front is 0.175".

Chris.
