RE: mini grease groove bullets
It is the BACO JIM459435m1 435 money bullet. There is .457 in the case. That puts the bullet .030 into the lands, and the case rim just clears the hammer.

With the heavier bullet you're looking at, don't be surprised to see .600+ inside the case.
Also-You will be up'n your powder charge with this new bullet, to have it fly 'rite'.
The load your are shoot'n now, is closer to a .45-70 in 'punch'.

RE: mini grease groove bullets
Yes sir. That was the new guy idea of building the 45-90. I could load it down for the 100 yard stuff but still be able to up the power for the long range stuff. I have got the short range load. Now I need to start the big stuff.
Any opinions on the tapered front band bullets vs the standard?

RE: mini grease groove bullets
I have both-No diff in accuracy.
I just don't like having a GG exposed to collect crud is all.
A 540 gn bullet, at 1355 fps out of my .45-90. Is all the punch needed for 1K+ yds

My 45-90 GG creedmore bullet is from BACO, with no tapered bands weighs 542, 1.416" long, 0.459. I seat the bullet 0.496" in the 2.40" case case. The front driving-band engraves the rifling about 0.030". All Starline cases are annealed, FL sized, then expanded with a 0.456 expander. Two grooves are exposed. The barrel is a Badger #4, 30" long with an 18" twist, screwed into an old roller. With its favorite charge of 1.5 Swiss and a BR-2 primer its happy to produce 6"+ groups at 600 yards, when Old Jim does his part!

Another item of interest, as long as different shaped bullets can be included in this conversation. The latest issue of BPCNews has an article by Bob Goldt, "Concentricity and Other Things". It makes for good reading!

RE: mini grease groove bullets
Concentricity of the case and bullet is as important as consistent neck tension.
I keep all my 'match' loads to a T.I.R. of .003" or less.

RE: mini grease groove bullets
Concentricity and uniform case neck wall thickness is very important for accuracy and very much over looked even when the bullets are finger seated loose in the case neck. Even in a loose seated bullet with different neck wall thickness the release pressure will vary and adding to the vertical.
