Jamison brass rim

I shoot an original Sharps 1874 Sporting rifle, 40 70 SS
I had the chamber sleeved, but the barrel is the original with all the shallow rifling.
Gun is in great condition.

I think the Jamison brass, which works, but is tight on closing, has a thick rim.

The rim of the Jamison is .65 or even a little larger.
The rim listed for the Original is .50. I had mine cut to the original with a custom RD cutter.

SO. While the eject, they have to be 'popped' out. with the lever.
I clean each shot, and chamber wipe too. No fouling.
I use 2F OE and 57 to 62 grains with a 330 Brooks custom duplicating the original RN bullet. 4 inches at 100 yards. still working out loads.
QUESTION. CAN I HAVE BRASS MADE WITH A .50 RIM? IF NOT,ANY THOUGHTS ON HOW TO TRIM? Ken

Ken, if everything else on the case fits the way you want it, it would just be easier to have the case rim cut to fit the diameter that you need.
My question to you is, are your sure the numbers you put in your post are correct?
To reduce a rim diameter by .150 is a lot, a way lot. My guess is that the Jamison is .550" and needs to go to .500.
How many cases do you have on hand that would need to be reduced in diameter?
I have a small lathe and am a retired toolmaker and could easily do the work for you a the cost would be minimal, I am thinking somewhere around .25 a case depending on how many you have, plus return postage, providing your here in the US.

Don't know if this will help but to get captech 40/70 brass to work in a stretched 30/40 chamber you have to cut ,005 wider and .005 deeper on the case head cut. This could be your problem, you could cut .005 off the diameter and .005 off the rear of the case and use pistol primers and get to work.

Try calling Buffalo Arms - they make cases with dimensions I have not seen elsewhere. (208) 263-6953. I got some 44-77 brass from them that fits my rifle perfectly - they had three different sizes - one for especially for my Shiloh Sharps. Just sayin'

My Jamison 40-70 SS brass measures .70-.71 fits perfectly in my Shiloh chamber, it was cut when only the BACO stretched 30-40 Krag brass was available, rim was a bit to thick @.72 but worked fine.I have 40 pieces of RMC brass it's perfect @ .68-.69

I buy the Jamison brass from Buffalo made for the Original sharps.
They measure .68 and fit fine. The sticking was due to chamber being dirty/wet after cleaning. I used a new 410 shotgun swab with a new short chamber cleaner I bought and It works perfectly. Sticking almost completely gone. Ken
