RE: spotting scopes
There is definitely a big difference between low end and high end spotting scopes. I have a mid-range one that is quite good, but for reading light mirage it's not quite as nice as a Kowa.
For a prone scope stand I can highly recommend the Creedmoor Sports PoleCat with the 1" rod.

RE: spotting scopes
Been using this Celestron for many years now. Very pleased with it.
The variable eyepiece is nice for reading mirage.

For a very wind resistant tripod. This is hard to beat.
Been using one for many years also.

RE: spotting scopes
Thought I owed everyone a follow up, so the winner is a Kowa with the fixed 25 power eye piece. This last weekend I hosted a casual gong shoot and had 22 or so shooters. Targets were placed as far as 1,244 yards. We shoot to the east, and with the sun behind us, late in the day, I could see bullet splashes on the target. See them better than any scope that was there. I spent a lot of time behind the scope spotting for people and would get some eye strain but not what I was used to. So short story is, I'm loving the scope. Cheapest price I could find was at Buffalo Arms. Thanks Dave.
