Howdy Kurt, I can't help but be entertained (just a might) to see yourself Tip Toeing on the " Lite Side " ;-) Recall I'm more the reformed White powder shooter trying to find way with the "Dark" side

As to loads for the 30-30 my preference is 4198, either H or IMR but note there is slight difference in burn specs. If one develops loads with one brand ya may not be good to just throw in the other. A few considerations are. Use SINGLE BASE powder, if you happen to have rounds loaded for Baker in yer wagon while visiting the Q, the posse may go after ya with cleaning rods a wippin. 4227 & 4198 are Single base and bulky enough to not slide around as much inside brass causing verticals. In operation, where possible and allowed, it might smooth velocity differences if on can pass rifle through Port Arms position (muzzle elevated) while drawing a bead. Speaking from recent experiment in 30-06 with cast and Trail Boss, eliminating verticals was not possible even with that flash powder and 150 gr pills. At 15.000 grs my 03A3 fired like a .22. However we were attempting to hit gong at 200 yds. I had the Lyman 48 long slide rear sight @ 70 minutes and only hit gong occasionally when the vertical spread of about 16 inches crossed paths. In 30-30 employing 165gr or slightly high bullet weight should make holding 1400 fps easier with accuracy. Lastly double base powders really warm the barrel up when running multiple shots. I have a good load with 296 powder in 45 Colt and nearly singed my fingers on left hand cradling '92 while firing in "Herd" shoot IE steel silhouettes on ground from 40 to 170 yards or so, all ya can knock down in set time. ;-) Obviously I've drifted a bit Kurt but good luck and of course report your travels back on the "lite side" ;-)
