Shiloh #3 Sporter 45-120 SS
Well, I'm at it again, another project in the works, I bought a B Shiloh #3 sporter with a nice 30" 17 twist Green Mountain barrel chambered in 44-77.

Sent the rifle up to Kirk for a rebarrel job, it'll wear a 30" #1 heavy 18 twist octagon barrel with polished blue finish and a 7 degree leade, it has beautiful bone pack colors and a Schnabel forend and checkered steel shotgun butt.

I've had near 200 sticks of 45-120 brass and a set of RCBS dies for over 10 years, now I'll put em to work, have all the brass prepped and ready, I'll start with the 1881 Saeco grease groove bullet over 120 gr OE 2FG and a 30 thou Walters wad, they'll be sized to .458 and lubed with the new beeswax/jojoba oil lube you Men recommended.

Buckhorn barrel sights complimented nicely with one of RDNCKS copper penny front sights will round out the package, I'll be picking fights with buck deer this fall and most likely be shooting them in the chest coming in to the horns, coyotes and pigs will be on the break in menu too.Smile

I'll be six Sharps rifles up at completion, does this ever end? ;]

You'll want to get a good supply of OE 1f to feed that beast

10-4, Thanks Don, I have a couple lbs of OE 1.5FG, I'll try it on the way to 1FG if the 2FG doesn't provide the accuracy, my old fav 530 gr paper patch bullet as well as the 570 gr AA Smerker bullet are in the wings to try too.

Do you guys like a round nosed bullet such as the 1881 Saeco for hunting? This will be new territory for me as all I've ever used, save one deer with a 540 gr Creedmoor, is flat point bullets for hunting.

1f has been working quite well in the 110's

Yes, I shot some old Goex Express 1F in my 45-110 with the 570 Smerker, it got to the point at EVERY trigger pull, I knew I'd hear lead smacking steel, a really good feeling ;]

Good Lord, hate it when the forum is so slow, damn the dog days of summer, ready to blast some animals and restock the freezers.

Guess the 45-120 is indeed an uninteresting red headed bastard cat, Selous found the 450 3-1/4" Black Powder Express very interesting AND effective on all manner of African game!

Indeed, I just got lucky and completed one of the best casting sessions I've ever had, only kicked out 8 bullets out of 100 that's good for me with only a Lyman pot and no pid?? apparatus.

Been busy keeping the grass bush hogged at the range, and spraying round up around the gongs, the front of the gongs where the bullets cleave into the ground is still clean.Smile

RE: Shiloh #3 Sporter 45-120 SS
I need to get some time to shoot a new to me Shiloh #1 in 45-70 to see which bullet it's going to get along with best, then get busy casting. I need a bunch for the 110's and the 90.
With all the rain we've got I'ld probably be ahead to take the swather to the range ,rake and bale it, otherwise I think the bush hog would be a tired little puppy. Smile
