Then again, it's possible your rifle/load is NOT a MOA combination. Whereupon, even a "slight" breeze/windy condition can appear to scatter you bullet-holes around.

Also, the wind conditions at the muzzle of the rifle may not be the same @ 200,300, 400 yds. downrange.

Just tryin' to add something here. I do not know it all!

this I can understand, I am going to continue as I have been without making any sight adjustments until I get a "zero" wind day and then I will send my favorite load down range

RE: rear sight out of plumb
It is starting to sound like the load ain't there yet.
Did you change anydangthing?
No movement in the butt stock, correct? Forend screws ar tight, right?
Mirage could also be part of the issue.

Gary

everything on the rifle is tight

I will know if its the load on my next "zero wind day"

my base load has been 55 grains of Swiss 1.5 with basically no compression

the 40 I fired on Thursday were 56 grains
the 40 I fired on Saturday were 56.5 grains

all other steps in load were exactly the same

I will load some 55 grainers today since we have "wind warnings" and I will not be sending any down range

Try more compression.
Use enough powder to compress about .125".
When do the groups open up? After a handfull of rounds? If that's the case, you have a fouling issue.

One last thought,
Many folks load 1.5 Swiss in different calibers, with virtually no compression and they get along real well with good groups. Then there is the group of shooters that find that compressing it works for them.

Different strokes for different folks Tongue !
That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

Gary

the groups are no opening up, I wipe between rounds, 1 damp wrapped around a nylon brush, 1 damp pushed through, 1 dry push through

groups are basically tight

I will increase powder to get about .125 compression and will compare to my 55 grains that is virtually no compression

I will do this on a zero wind day

thanks for the input Guys

Can you remove the recoil reducer for a test?
I wonder, if it's changing the recoil 'pulse' to cause the shift in POA/POI.
Where is this recoil reducer placed in the buttstock? What make is it?
Kirk, at Shiloh installed a 'Dead-Mule" in my #1 .45-90, just under the comb. I have never seen a POA/POI shift with or with out it.
Also, go to 2 dry patches just cause.....

the fore end screws will also affect your output , they should only be snug if this is a shiloh not tight, and they are different lengths , if they get reversed they can do things as well. IIRC

thanks for the tip, the most forward screw was banjo tight, the rear one was snug

now both of them are snug, waiting for the wind in West Tennessee to lay. I will be sending my favorite load down range soon
